In the treatment of superficial ocular infections, a ribbon approximately 1 cm in length of Erythromycin Opthalmic Ointment should be applied directly to the infected structure up to 6 times daily, depending on the severity of the infection.

For prophylaxis of neonatal gonococcal or chlamydial conjunctivitis, a ribbon of ointment approximately 1 cm in length should be instilled into each lower conjunctival sac. The ointment should not be flushed from the eye following instillation. A new tube should be used for each infant.

Caution:

Keep out of the reach of children and pets. Store ointment with the cap securely tightened. Always follow prescriptions to their completion. Do not stop giving an antibiotic until directed to do so by your veterinarian. Do not touch the tip of the tube to any surface, including your pet’s eye. Use with caution if your pet is nursing. Store ointment at room temperature.

Side Effects:

Serious side effects are rare during treatment with this medication. However, some minor side effects such as blurred vision, burning, irritation, itching or redness of eyes and sensitivity to light may occur. In such cases, the veterinarian could be consulted to decide the future course of action.

Precautions:
