How Previcox Works

Previcox contains firocoxib, a COX-2 selective nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It works by blocking the cyclooxygenase-2 enzyme, which is involved in the production of prostaglandins that trigger inflammation and pain in dogs.

Indicated for the control of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis, as well as for the management of postoperative pain related to soft-tissue and orthopedic surgeries in dogs.

Previcox (firocoxib) Chewable Tablets provide targeted pain relief and inflammation control for dogs suffering from osteoarthritis or recovering from soft-tissue or orthopedic surgery. This prescription-only NSAID (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug) is formulated specifically for canine use and is administered once daily at a recommended dose of 2.27 mg/lb (5.0 mg/kg) of body weight. The tablets are scored for easy dosage adjustment and may be given with or without food.

Dosage & Administration

• Administer orally at 2.27 mg/lb (5.0 mg/kg) body weight once daily.
• For osteoarthritis: Daily use as needed.
• For post-operative pain: Start approximately 2 hours before surgery and continue for 3 days.
• Tablets are scored for accurate dosing in half-tablet increments.
• Do not use in dogs weighing less than 12.5 lbs (5.7 kg).

Contraindications

Do not administer to dogs with known hypersensitivity to firocoxib or other NSAIDs.

Warnings

• For veterinary use in dogs only. Not for human use.
• Keep out of reach of children. In case of accidental ingestion, contact a physician immediately.
• Do not exceed recommended dosage. Serious adverse effects may occur, especially in puppies under 7 months of age.
