Previcox (firocoxib) Chewable Tablets provide targeted pain relief and inflammation control for dogs suffering from osteoarthritis or recovering from soft-tissue or orthopedic surgery. This prescription-only NSAID (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug) is formulated specifically for canine use and is administered once daily at a recommended dose of 2.27 mg/lb (5.0 mg/kg) of body weight. The tablets are scored for easy dosage adjustment and may be given with or without food.
Dosage & Administration
- Administer orally at 2.27 mg/lb (5.0 mg/kg) body weight once daily.
- For osteoarthritis: Daily use as needed.
- For post-operative pain: Start approximately 2 hours before surgery and continue for 3 days.
- Tablets are scored for accurate dosing in half-tablet increments.
- Do not use in dogs weighing less than 12.5 lbs (5.7 kg).
Contraindications
Do not administer to dogs with known hypersensitivity to firocoxib or other NSAIDs.
Warnings
- For veterinary use in dogs only. Not for human use.
- Keep out of reach of children. In case of accidental ingestion, contact a physician immediately.
- Do not exceed recommended dosage. Serious adverse effects may occur, especially in puppies under 7 months of age.
- Regular veterinary monitoring is recommended during treatment.
Precautions
- Use caution in dogs with pre-existing renal, hepatic, or cardiovascular conditions.
- Do not administer concurrently with other NSAIDs or corticosteroids.
- Monitor dogs for signs of gastrointestinal, hepatic, or renal adverse effects.
- Consider washout periods when switching from other anti-inflammatory medications.
- Safety in pregnant, lactating, or breeding dogs has not been evaluated.
Owner Information
Owners should be informed of possible adverse effects, which may include:
- Vomiting or diarrhea
- Loss of appetite or lethargy
- Behavioral changes or seizures
- Pale gums, jaundice, or black tarry stools
If signs of intolerance occur, discontinue use and consult a veterinarian immediately.

Safety studies in adult and juvenile dogs evaluated long-term use and high-dose tolerability, identifying dose-related gastrointestinal and hepatic effects at 3X and 5X therapeutic doses.
Palatability
According to field studies, 97.2% of pet owners found Previcox tablets easy to administer, and 68.5% of dogs readily accepted them due to their chewable formulation.
Storage Instructions
Store at room temperature between 59°F and 86°F (15°C – 30°C). Brief temperature excursions up to 104°F (40°C) are permitted.

FAQ
PREVICOX should be given according to your veterinarian's instructions. Do not change the way you give PREVICOX to your dog without first speaking with your veterinarian. Your veterinarian will tell you what amount of PREVICOX is right for your dog and for how long it should be given. Most dogs will take PREVICOX chewable tablets from your hand, but you can also place the tablet directly into your dog's mouth. PREVICOX may be given with or without food.
PREVICOX is designed specifically for dogs. As such, people should not take PREVICOX or administer it to any animal other than a dog as prescribed by your veterinarian. Keep PREVICOX and all medications out of the reach of children. Call your physician immediately if you or a member of your family accidentally ingests PREVICOX.
Consult your veterinarian immediately if your dog consumes more than the prescribed amount of PREVICOX.
PREVICOX, like other NSAIDs, may cause some side effects. Serious side effects associated with NSAID therapy in dogs can occur with or without warning. The most common side effects associated with PREVICOX therapy involve the digestive tract (vomiting and decreased food consumption). Liver and kidney problems have also been reported with the use of NSAIDs. Look for the following side effects that may indicate your dog is having a problem with PREVICOX or may have another medical problem in addition to arthritis.
- Vomiting
- Change in bowel movements (such as diarrhea or black, tarry or bloody stools)
- Change in behavior (such as decreased or increased activity level, lack of coordination, seizure, or aggression)
- Yellowing of gums, skin, or whites of the eyes (jaundice)
- Change in drinking habits (frequency or amount consumed)
- Change in urination habits (frequency, color, or smell)
- Change in skin (redness, scabs, or scratching)
- Unexpected weight loss
It is important to stop treatment and contact your veterinarian immediately if you think your dog has a medical problem or side effect while taking PREVICOX tablets. If you have additional questions about possible side effects, talk with your veterinarian or call 888-637-4251.

- The signs of canine arthritis you have observed in your dog, such as limping or stiffness. You can print our checklist of common signs and take it with you to help you talk with your veterinarian.

- How often your dog may have to be examined by your veterinarian
- The risks and benefits of using PREVICOX
Tell your veterinarian if your dog has ever had one or more of the following medical problems:
- Any side effects from taking PREVICOX or other NSAIDs
- Any digestive upset (vomiting and/or diarrhea)
- Any kidney disease
- Any liver disease
Tell your veterinarian about:
- Any other medical problems or allergies that your dog has now, or has had in the past
- All medicines that you are giving or planning to give your dog, including those you can get without a prescription and any dietary supplements
Your dog should not be given PREVICOX if he/she:
- Has had an allergic reaction to firocoxib, the active ingredient in PREVICOX
- Has had an allergic reaction (such as hives, facial swelling, or red or itchy skin) to aspirin or other NSAIDs

This medication should be a generic but since they can make massive profits on it they refuse to help the consumer. I'm not blaming Entirely Pets Pharmacy. I'm sure the pharmaceutical sets the price. But over $200 dollars( before discounts) for 60 pills is ridiculous.

My dog is young again

It Definitely Helps

I have a senior boxer/pitbull and this is what helps her keep moving. Before she started on Previcox she had a very sometimes impossibly hard time getting up and down the stairs. She may still go up and down slowly but at least now she can be where her people are at night and that makes for a happy “pup”. I only wish it were cheaper.
