Description

Zonisamide is a capsule that treats seizures in dogs or cats caused by epilepsy or other seizure-inducing disorders. It can be prescribed as a lone therapy as well as with other medications to control seizures.

Key Benefits

  • Controls seizures
  • Minimal side effects in comparison to other medications that treat seizures
  • Sold per capsule

How It Works

The exact action in which Zonisamide for dogs and cats affects the body is unknown. However, Zonisamide is believed to block sodium channels in the brain, reducing nerve cell activity ensuring they don't fire irregularly. Zonisamide Capsules can also alter the calcium levels in the brain.

Indications

Zonisamide is indicated as adjunctive therapy in the treatment of partial seizures in adults with epilepsy.

Directions

  • Consult with your veterinarian before administering Zonisamide to your pet.
  • Follow your veterinarian's exact instructions when administering Zonisamide to your pet
  • Zonisamide can be administered with or without food.
  • Always give the full capsule and do not break the capsule.

Tip: Be sure to administer the complete prescription unless told otherwise by your veterinarian to prevent relapse or the development of resistance to Zonisamide. Also, make sure your pet has enough water available when taking Zonisamide.
