Timolol is used to treat open-angle glaucoma and glaucoma caused by another disease of the eye. Timolol helps by relieving pressure in the eye. This medication is produced by various manufacturers.
Timolol is a topically-applied medication that can be directly instilled into the eye to reduce internal eye pressure. It is a non-selective beta blocking medication that works to reduce aqueous humor production through the blocking of beta-2 receptors within the ciliary body, resulting in decreased production of AMP. This reduction leads to decreased intraocular pressure.
Timolol Maleate ophthalmic solution is indicated in the treatment of elevated intraocular pressure in patients with ocular hypertension or open-angle glaucoma.
One drop in the eye once or twice daily.
The dropper opening is sterile, so don?t touch it to any surface, including eyes or hands. If it becomes contaminated, it may cause an infection in the eye.
Timolol maleate should not be used in pets with a history of hypersensitivity to it or any component of the formulation. Used with caution, if at all, in pets with heart block, bradycardia, heart failure, asthma, chronic bronchitis or other cardiopulmonary conditions.
