Helping my Senile old babygirl handle reality

Our babies are now 15 and 16 years old, both are Basenji/JRT mixes.Our girl, the younger if the two, started showing symptoms of senility about 8 months ago. The Vet recommended SeniLife. She’s still a little lost and has moments of lashing out in pain or fear, but the SeniLife allows her to be more calm and aware.We give her a daily dose before dinner. The capsules make administration easy, because it is a small item i can hide in my hand. Oral syringes scare her and make medicating a pain. She hates the taste of the SeniLife (it smells like fish oil, and she has always been a picky eater) and I have to gently pin her where I can sneak it past her lips, but her big brother loves it. He gets one dose every 2-4 days as a preventative, and I can either put it in his food or give it to him like a treat.I appreciate SeniLife for making my baby girl’s final years a little more aware and calm.

So let me preface by saying there is no cure for doggy dementia but this supplement slows the progression by helping keep the brain cells protected. My 15 year old pup has been taking it for about 3 years now. When we started him on it he was pacing and panting and shaking a lot. We would have to feed him ”hand to mouth” He would just be panicking all day long. That has ceased and remained gone. He was also getting stuck in corners and walking mindlessly. At 15 that has returned. But the main difference is he can enjoy his life. He is eating his food out of his bowl by himself even though it takes him ages to do, and when it gets dark out he starts the pacing again. When he gets in a corner he forgets he can just back-up. But if we give him a few minutes he will usually sit down and scoot himself around. We usually watch to see if he needs help. He cannot do stairs anymore he just walks right off the edge so we had to invest in gates but we got 3+ who knows how many more years with our guy and like I said before he still hops around outside to the best of his ability enjoying life bc he is not afraid of everything around him thanks to Senelife. So while it may not be a life changer for all dogs if it is a quality of life improver that is a win! It’s worth a try but I have noticed it takes about 6-8 weeks to start working but only about week without for symptoms to come back so don’t run out!

I've read that Senilife was a life-changer for many other dogs, but for mine, whose symptoms began likely around 2 years before getting to the point where he was wandering, circling, and getting stuck in spaces, it only helped minimally, but I am grateful. The changes I noticed was that at night when he would wander endlessly, he now wanders for a short time before laying down to sleep. The other thing I noticed was increase in appetite - he willingly and enthusiastically eats his food. He has also been sleeping through the night better as well as not shaking as much upon waking. I've been using this product for about 11 weeks and I am hopeful I may see a little more improvement, or at least drastically slow the decline. His veterinarian recommended a protocol of Senilife and Denosyl and that's what we have been doing.

- The gel cap has a smaller narrow end that makes it easy to cut and squeeze into his mouth. For a dog that is picky and turns his nose up at most foods and treats, I prefer supplements in liquid form.

Helping maintain my 14yo

I looked into this because my almost 14 yo dog (at the time) was pacing so much during the night, it was quite difficult on us. He's always been on the anxious side, so the change had been incremental, but still noticeable and difficult for us. I was observing also confusion when wandering and staring out. He's been taking Senilife now for probably 6 months and I think doing better. At the beginning (2-3 weeks into it) I remember trying to asses: I felt like it's been helpful, while my husband said he didn't notice much change at night. So in our case the change was not dramatic, but I chose to keep him on it because I know senility is progressive so I was hoping to at least slow it down. Now that I'm looking back he hasn't been staring and wondering the way he had started to do, so I am keeping him on. For those interested in night pacing aspect: more recently I also started 1/2 tablet of Hyland's Calms Forte at night, for a 60 lb dog, which also helps. This is not because he started doing worse, but because some additional challenges particular to our case.

My 14 year old dog would bark at the walls, walk into corners, wander around the house, act confused & stare into space. Senilfe has helped a great deal. It is not a cure, but these symptoms have greatly improved & has helped her quality of life.
