Description

Polyglycan is a patented formulation designed to replace lost or damaged synovial fluid. It contains naturally-occurring components of the synovia that play a central role in maintaining the homeostatic environment of the joint

Key Benefits

  • Help replenish lost synovial fluid with naturally occurring elements
  • Assists in normalization of synovial fluid viscosity
  • Post-surgical lavage of the joint cavity and surfaces
  • Patented formulation

Consult with your veterinarian if you suspect your horse may have Osteoarthritis or other disease as the clinical signs can vary.

How It Works

Polyglycan contains the ingredients hyaluronic acid, chondroitin sulfates C4 and C6, and N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, which help replenish lost synovial fluid with naturally occurring elements, assists in the normalization of synovial fluid viscosity, and post-surgical lavage of joint cavity and surfaces.

Indications

Polyglycan is indicated for the replacement of lost or damaged synovial fluid. Polyglycan contains naturally occurring components of the synovia that play a central part in maintaining the homeostatic environment of the joint.

Ingredients

Each 2.5mL prefilled syringe contains:
Hyaluronic acid sodium salt 20 mg
Sodium chondroitin sulfate 250 mg
N-acetyl-D-glucosamine 125 mg

Highly viscous aqueous solution of defined fractions of purified Hyaluronic acid, Chondroitin sulfates C4 & C6 in a 10% solution of N-acetyl-D-glucosamine.

Properties:

Glycosaminoglycans are important components of all extracellular tissue structures including cartilage and synovial fluid. The active components in Polyglycan-SA exhibit viscoelastic and polyionic properties similar in nature to synovial fluid.

Introduce Polyglycan-SA into the synovial space as a post-surgical lavage, synovial fluid replacement or viscosupplement to assist in the normalization of the joint.

FAQ

Polyglycan requires a prescription from your veterinarian. Polyglycan also requires refrigeration at all times. To ensure proper temperature, Polyglycan requires overnight shipping at an additional cost. It is available in a single-use vial that contains 12.5 mg of hyaluronic acid sodium salt, 250 mg of sodium chondroitin sulfate, and 250 mg of N-acetyl-D-glucosamine.
Tell your veterinarian if your horse has a hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid sodium salt, sodium chondroitin sulfate, or N-acetyl-D-glucosamine. Also tell your veterinarian if your horse is pregnant, breeding, or lactating. Your veterinarian should know if your horse is currently taking any other medications as well.
Follow your veterinarian's instructions exactly as directed. Polyglucan should be instilled into the synovial space to replace lost synovial fluid. The dosage is determined by your veterinarian. After administration, discard any unused portion of vial contents.
Side effects of Polyglycan can include diarrhea, vomiting, melena (dark, tarry stool), lethargy, and lack of appetite.
If you miss a dose of Polyglycan, give the missed dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume a normal dosing schedule.
Contact your veterinarian immediately if you think you overdosed your horse.
Let your veterinarian know if your horse is currently taking any other medications, including prescription and over-the-counter medications and supplements.

Was sent a vial manufactured in 2013 which was darker color in appearance from previous product. My veterinarian advised against using it even though it had no expiration date. I asked for a "better appearing " replacement since I did not want to chance using it. Was refused since the manufacturer said it was safe although this pharmacy agreed with me that it looked different and they understood my concerns. Now I am out the costs because I am afraid to use it......
