Phenylbutazone Powder For Horses is for the relief of inflammatory conditions associated with the musculoskeletal system. Phenylbutazone is an NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) used to treat and manage pain associated with joints, muscles and bones. This highly palatable citrus-flavored powder is easily top-dressed on the horse's ration.

Indications

Phenylbutazone is for the relief of inflammatory conditions associated with the musculoskeletal sstem in horses. In the treatment of inflammatory conditions associated with infections, specific anti-infective therapy should be used concurrently.

For Horses Only: Administer orally (using the 0.6 ounce (18 mL) scoop provided) on a small amount of palatable feed and mix well. Give 1 to 2 level scoops per 500 pounds of body weight, but do not exceed 4 scoops per animal daily. Use the high dose for the first 48 hours, then gradually reduce to a maintenance dose.

Caution:

Federal law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian. Federal law prohibits the extralabel use of this product in female dairy cattle 20 months of age or older.

Contraindications:

Use with caution in patients who have history of drug allergy.

Warning:

Do not use in horses intended for human consumption.

Human Warnings:

Keep this and all medication out of the reach of children. Dispense in tight, child resistant containers.

Precautions:

Concomitant use with other anti-inflammatory drugs, such as NSAIDs or corticosteroids, shouldbe avoided or closely monitored.

Not for use in horses hypersensitive (allergic) to Phenylbute. Do not use in horses with stomach ulcers or a history of stomach ulcers, horses that are anemic, or have diseases of the bone marrow, kidney, liver, or heart. Do not use in pregnant or lactating horses unless benefits outweigh the risks. Avoid use in debilitated horses, foals, and ponies unless benefits outweigh the risks, since the possibility of toxic side effects is increased in these animals.

Since Phenylbute can mask lameness, it is unethical to use it prior to a soundness exam.

Do not use in horses intended for food.

This medication should only be given to the horse for which it was prescribed.
