Pancrezyme Powder consists of enzymes naturally produced by the pancreas necessary for the digestion of food. Pancrezyme Powder is used as a digestive aid and as replacement therapy for inadequate digestion due to pancreatic insufficiency. Pancreatic enzymes are derived from whole, raw pancreas of pork origin. Pancrezyme Powder may also be used for purposes other than those listed here.

How It Works

Pancrezyme Powder is a form of pancreatic enzymes normally produced by the pancreas for the purpose of digesting and absorbing fats, proteins, and carbohydrates It is used for those pets in which the enzymes are not produced naturally and in sufficient quantity.

For use in animals with deficient exocrine pancreatic secretions. As a digestive aid in enzyme replacement therapy where digestion of carbohydrate, protein and fat is inadequate.

  • Pancrezyme Powder is a digestive aid for pets with pancreatic insufficiency or maldigestion syndrome.
  • Pancrezyme Powder consists of enzymes naturally produced by the pancreas necessary for the digestion of food.
  • Pancreatic enzymes are derived from whole, raw pancreas of pork origin.
  • Use Pancrezyme Powder only as directed by your veterinarian.
  • Mix Pancrezyme Powder with moistened food at each meal as directed below. Allow mixture to stand for 15-20 minutes at room temperature before feeding to enhance digestion.
  • Each teaspoon (2.8 g) of Pancrezyme Powder contains sufficient pancreatic enzymes to digest (in vitro): 260 g fat, 388 g protein 460 g starch. Quantity may be adjusted as directed by your veterinarian.

Tip: The pet parent should avoid inhaling powder as it might irritate the mouth. This product is intended for intermittent or supplemental feeding only.

Pancrezyme Powder Dosage for Cats

Pancrezyme Powder is a concentrate derived from whole raw pancreas of porcine origin, and therefore should not be given to pets allergic to pork. Pet parents should avoid inhaling the powder since it can irritate the mouth. If your pet experiences any side effects such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the lips, tongue or face, hives or diarrhea occur, stop giving Pancrezyme Powder and seek emergency veterinary medical attention.

If any of the following serious side effects occur, stop giving Pancrezyme Powder and seek emergency veterinary medical attention; an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; swelling of the lips, tongue or face; hives). Discontinue giving Pancrezyme Powder and talk to your veterinarian if your pet experiences diarrhea or loose stools. Other side effects may also occur. Talk to your veterinarian about any side effect that seems unusual or bothersome to your pet.

Contraindications

Pancrezyme is a concentrate derived from whole raw pancreas of porcine origin, and therefore should not be given to pets allergic to pork. Talk tol your veterinarian if your pet has any of the following conditions:

  • Formation of Fibrous Tissue in the Colon
  • Stomach or Intestinal Tract Operation
  • Crohn's Disease
  • Stomach or Intestine Blockage
  • Inadequate Absorption of Nutrients due to a Short Bowel
  • High Amount of Uric Acid in the Blood
  • Intestinal Obstruction in the Fetus or Newborn
  • Gout

Pancrezyme Powder is use in dogs and cats. Pancrezyme Powder is available as an easy-to-administer powder. Each 1 teaspoonful of powder (2.8 gm) contains Lipase (71,400 USP Units), Protease (388,000 USP Units) and Amylase (460,000 USP Units). The usual dose of Pancrezyme Powder in dogs is 3/4-1 teaspoonful mixed with each meal. After mixing, allow the mixture to stand for 15-20 minutes before feeding it to your pet. For cats, the usual dose of Pancrezyme Powder is 1/4-3/4 teaspoonful of the powder mixed with each meal. After mixing, allow the mixture to stand for 15-20 minutes before feeding it to your pet.
Tell your veterinarian if your pet has an allergy to pork. Tell your veterinarian if your pet is being given antacids such as Maalox, H2 blockers such as cimetidine or proton pump inhibitors such as Prilosec. Tell your veterinarian if your pet is pregnant or lactating.
Give this medication exactly as directed by your veterinarian. If you do not understand the directions ask the pharmacist or veterinarian to explain them to you. Avoid inhaling the powder as it might irritate the mouth. Store Pancrezyme Powder at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Keep this medication away from children and pets.

Give the missed dose as soon as you remember during the same day. However, if you don't remember until the next day, skip the dose you missed and give only the next regularly scheduled dose. Do not give a double dose of the medication.
An overdose of Pancrezyme Powder may cause vomiting, diarrhea and/or cramps. Contact your veterinarian or emergency veterinary clinic immediately if an overdose is suspected.
Pancrezyme Powder should not be given to pets allergic to it, or to pets allergic to pork. Pet parents should avoid inhaling the powder as it might irritate the mouth.
Tell your veterinarian if your pet is being given antacids such as Maalox, H2 blockers such as cimetidine or proton pump inhibitors such as Prilosec.
