Description

Muricin is an antibiotic prescribed to treat a range of bacterial skin infections.Your veterinarian may prescribe this ointment if your pup is experiencing pyoderma, or hot spots. This broad-spectrum antiobiotic can slow the growth of bacteria and help relieve itchy, painful hot spots.

How It Works

Mupirocin is an antimicrobial agent that inhibits the growth of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

Indications

Muricin ointment is indicated for the topical treatment of canine bacterial infections of the skin, including superficial pyoderma, caused by susceptible strains ofStaphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus intermedius.

Prior to treatment, the lesion should be cleansed. Muricin ointment should be applied to the affected area twice a day. Apply a sufficient amount of ointment to completely cover the infected area. Maximum duration of treatment should not exceed 30 days.

Caution:

Federal law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.

Contraindications:

This drug is contraindicated in animals with a history of sensitivity reactions to any of its components.

Warnings:

Because of the potential hazard of nephrotoxicity due to the polyethylene glycol content of the base, care should be exercised when using this product in treating extensive deep lesions where absorption of large quantities of polyethylene glycol is possible.

Safety of use in pregnant or breeding animals has not been determined. Muricin ointment is not for ophthalmic use.

Adverse Reactions:

No adverse reactions have been reported with this product. If a skin reaction such as irritation should occur, treatment should be discontinued and appropriate therapy instituted.

Mupirocin is an antibiotic ointment used for the treatment of canine bacterial infections of the skin. Mupirocin requires a prescription from your veterinarian.
Mupirocin Ointment is FDA approved for treating topical infections in dogs caused by susceptible strains of bacteria. Use this medication for the full amount of time prescribed by your veterinarian. Your pet's symptoms may improve before the infection is completely healed. Avoid getting this medication in the pet's eyes, nose, or mouth. Mupirocin Ointment is available by prescription as 2% strength in a 22 gm tube. The usual dose of Mupirocin Ointment is to apply on the dog 2 times a day.

An overdose of Mupirocin Ointment is unlikely to occur. If an overdose is suspected, seek emergency veterinary medical treatment.
