Key Benefits:

  • Smooth liquid for easy syringibility, can be used with small 25-gauge needle
  • Sub-Q and IV options in dogs, easy to administer
  • Works fast.
  • No need to refrigerate
  • Effectively treats pain and inflammation in dogs
  • Reduces stiffness and increases mobility
  • Minimum 24 hour pain control.

How It Works

Metacam works by reducing hormones that cause pain and inflammation in the body

Indications

Dogs

Metacam 5mg/ml solution for injection is indicated in dogs for the control of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis.

Cats:

Metacam 5mg/ml solution for injection is indicated for the control of postoperative pain and inflammation associated with orthopedic surgery, ovariohysterectomy and castration when administered prior to surgery.

Directions

Dogs:

  • Carefully consider the potential benefits and risk of Metacam and other treatment options before deciding to use Metacam. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration consistent with individual response.
  • Metacam 5mg/ml solution for injection should be administered initially as a single dose at 0.09 mg/lb (0.2 mg/kg) body weight intravenously (IV) or subcutaneously (SQ), followed, after 24 hours, by Metacam Oral Suspension at the daily dose of 0.045 mg/lb (0.1 mg/kg) body weight, either mixed with food or placed directly in the mouth.

Cats:

  • Carefully consider the potential benefits and risk of Metacam and other treatment options before deciding to use Metacam. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration consistent with individual response.
  • Administer a single, one-time subcutaneous dose of Metacam 5mg/ml solution for injection to cats at a dose of 0.14 mg/lb (0.3 mg/kg) body weight. Use of additional meloxicam or other NSAIDs is contraindicated. To ensure accuracy of dosing, the use of a 1 mL graduated syringe is recommended.

Side Effects:

Common side effects may include vomiting, soft stools, diarrhea, lethargy, decreased appetite and behavioral changes. If side effects occur, pet owners should halt therapy and contact their veterinarian. Pets should be evaluated for pre-existing conditions and currently prescribed medications prior to treatment with Metacam, then monitored regularly while on treatment.

Cautions:

Concurrent use with another NSAID, corticosteroid, or nephrotoxic medication should be avoided. The safe use of Metacam in dogs younger than 6 months of age, dogs used for breeding, or in pregnant or lactating bitches has not been evaluated.
