Description

Furosemide (Generic) Tablets are a prescription medication used in dogs and cats to treat edema (fluid retention) and congestive heart failure. They belong to a class of medications called diuretics, which help the body remove excess fluid by increasing urine production. Furosemide tablets are available in various strengths and are typically given orally one to three times a day, as directed by a veterinarian. Furosemide is a potent diuretic that helps the body eliminate excess fluid, making it useful in the treatment of edema and congestive heart failure. Available in tablet form for easy oral administration to dogs and cats, furosemide is a prescription medication and should only be used under the guidance of a veterinarian. The dosage of furosemide varies depending on the pet's weight, condition, and other factors, so it is important to follow the veterinarian's instructions carefully. While generally safe when used as directed, furosemide can cause side effects such as increased thirst, increased urination, and electrolyte imbalances.

Key Benefits:

  • Diuretic: Furosemide is a potent diuretic that helps the body eliminate excess fluid, making it useful in the treatment of edema and congestive heart failure.
  • Oral Administration: Available in tablet form for easy oral administration to dogs and cats.
  • Prescription Medication: Furosemide is a prescription medication and should only be used under the guidance of a veterinarian.
  • Dosage: The dosage of furosemide varies depending on the pet's weight, condition, and other factors. It is important to follow the veterinarian's instructions carefully.
  • Safety: Furosemide is generally safe when used as directed, but it can cause side effects such as increased thirst, increased urination, and electrolyte imbalances.

Indications:

Furosemide (Generic) Tablets are indicated for the treatment of edema (fluid retention) associated with congestive heart failure, liver disease, or kidney disease in dogs and cats. They are also used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) in some cases. Furosemide works by increasing the production of urine, which helps to remove excess fluid from the body. It is important to follow the veterinarian's instructions carefully when using furosemide to ensure its effectiveness and safety.

How it works:

Furosemide (Generic) Tablets work as a diuretic by inhibiting the reabsorption of sodium and chloride in the kidneys. This action prevents the reabsorption of water, leading to increased urine production and the elimination of excess fluid from the body. By reducing the volume of fluid in the bloodstream, furosemide helps to decrease the workload on the heart and improve symptoms of edema, such as swelling and difficulty breathing, in conditions like congestive heart failure, liver disease, or kidney disease.

Has worked well for my senior dog...

...who has taken this twice a day for 2.75 years now. He is 17 and has CHF and this helps keeps the fluid out of his lungs. It's a small easy to take pill and we just put a little peanut butter on it. The price at EntirelyPetsPharmacy is better than what I can get at the vet and I love that it comes through the mail.
Pros
  • Inexpensive, small pill that's easy to take.
Cons
  • None really.

Great Medication - Make sure to monitor
October 21, 2019
Furosemide causes my little guy to get dehydrated at times. Several times have had some kidney issues due it but that is the name of the game when dealing with heart patients. Watch your dogs close on this for signs of dehydration we have lots of water available for the little guy but for a 13 lb dog it seems to really just tear him up at times. We also give with a renal supplement to make sure he is getting the electrolytes he needs, we also on occasion do pedyilite for him. Talk to your vet about possibilities of this happening to your dog on this med. It works great but at times can work too well on the little guys. Greatly improved the amount of water getting into his lungs from his heart condition and decreased his cough.
