Ammonil Urinary Supplement is a dl-methionine supplement for use as a urinary acidifier in cats and dogs.

Key Benefits

  • A urinary acidifier used to prevent and treat certain types of kidney and bladder stones
  • A prescription is required for this medication
  • Given by mouth

Reasons for prescribing:

  • Used to acidify the urine of dogs and cats
  • May be useful in preventing the return of certain bladder stones

How It Works

DL-Methionine is used to acidify urine in both dogs and cats. Urinary acidifiers are used when the pH of the urine is too high, causing struvite stone and crystal formation. It may help in dissolving struvite stones with time and preventing stone recurrence. DL-Methionine is available as a flavored tablet in 200 mg or 500 mg strengths and as an oral gel.

  • Give the exact amount prescribed by your veterinarian and only as often as directed.
  • Product directions vary from product to product. Always follow your veterinarianís instructions.
  • Drug dosage should be adjusted to maintain urine pH consistently below 6.6.
  • Not intended for use in kittens.
  • Give this medication for as long as your veterinarian directs. Do not skip doses or stop giving the medication without consulting your veterinarian.
  • Your veterinarian will assess how this medication is working by your petís response.
  • Your veterinarian will also routinely check urine pH values to ensure proper dosing.
  • Dose adjustments may be made based upon these results and an assessment of how your dog or cat is responding clinically.
