Description

Vitamin K-1 is a supplement for both cats and dogs that helps blood clot better and helps prevent bleeding problems. The tasty chewable tablet contains liver powder, making it easy to administer. Vitamin K-1 is only used when your pet ingests coumarin compounds found in commercial rodenticides (rat poison).

Key Benefits

  • Palatable, chewable tablets improve daily dosing compliance.
  • Affordable and more convenient to dose.
  • Scored tablets provide flexible and accurate dosing.

How It Works

Vitamin K-1 Chewable Tablets contain the ingredient, phytonadione, which is a vitamin that helps blood clot better. This can help prevent bleeding problems caused by ingestion of rodenticides.

Indications

Vitamin K1 Chewable Tablets are indicated in dogs and cats to counter hypoprothrombi-nemia induced by ingestion of coumarin-based compounds, common ingredients of commercial rodenticides, and other drug induced hypoprothrombinemia where it is definitely shown that the result is due to interference with Vitamin K metabolism (e.g., salicylates).

Ingredients

Active Ingredients

Phytonadione ..... 25 mg

Inactive Ingredients

Cellulose, Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein, Iron Oxide, Liver Powder (Porcine Sourced), Magnesium Stearate, Silicone Dioxide, Stearic Acid, Sucrose and Whey.

Directions

  • Vitamin K-1 Chewable Tablets are meant to be used as a supplement in instances of ingestion of rodenticides (rat poison).
  • Use as directed by your veterinarian.

Tip: Always make sure your pet has fresh water available

Dosage for Cats

All weights 2.5-5 mg/kg (5.5-11 mg/lb) body weight (1 tablet per 11 lbs for higher dosages) once a day for up to three (3) weeks or as directed by your veterinarian.
Dosage for Dogs
Weight Daily Feeding
All weights 2.5-5 mg/kg (5.5-11 mg/lb) body weight (1 tablet per 22 lbs for higher dosages) once a day for up to three (3) weeks or as directed by your veterinarian.

Cautions:

For use in dogs and cats only. Use only as directed by a veterinarian. Always consult your veterinarian before giving K-1 to your pet. Phytonadione won't counteract the anticoagulant action of heparin. Failure to respond to Vitamin K-1 may indicate that the condition being supplemented is inherently unresponsive to K-1. Temporary resistance to anticoagulants may result when larger doses of Vitamin K-1 are used. If an ingestion of rodenticides is suspected, contact your veterinarian immediately.

Precautions:

Temporary resistance to prothrombin-depressing anticoagulants may result, especially when larger doses of phytonadione are used. It is recommended that Vitamin K-1 Chewable Tablets be used in follow-up only after administration of Vitamin K-1 Injection and hospitalization is no longer required. An immediate coagulant effect should not be expected after administration of phytonadione when administered orally.

Phytonadione will not counteract the anticoagulant action of heparin. Failure to respond to Vitamin K-1 may indicate that the condition being treated is inherently unresponsive to Vitamin K-1.

Possible Side Effects

Brief flushing sensations and peculiar sensations of taste have been observed with parenteral phytonadione, as well as rare instances of dizziness, rapid and weak pulse, profuse sweating, brief hypotension, dyspnea and cyanosis.

Storage:

Store at controlled room temperature; 15° C - 30° C (59° F - 86° F) and protect from light. Dispense in this container or another tight, light-resistant container.
