Ulcergard Oral Paste for Horses is a veterinarian-recommended supplement that helps prevent equine gastric ulcers and supports digestive health. Each syringe delivers a precise dose of omeprazole, a proven proton pump inhibitor that reduces stomach acid and helps prevent Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome (EGUS), often caused by stress, training, or travel.

This cinnamon-flavored paste is easy to administer and well-accepted by horses. Ideal for use during trailering, competition, or changes in routine, Ulcergard helps protect the stomach lining and maintain a healthy gastric environment.

Recommended Dosage:

  • Horses 600–1200 lbs: 1/4 tube once daily
  • Horses over 1200 lbs: 1/2 tube once daily

Ingredients

Active Ingredient

Omeprazole – a proton pump inhibitor that reduces gastric acid secretion and helps prevent Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome (EGUS).

Directions

Administration

Each syringe of Ulcergard Oral Paste contains 4 individual daily doses for horses weighing 600–1200 lbs. Refer to the dosage chart below to determine the appropriate dose for your horse.

Ulcergard Dosage Chart

Duration: 8 or 28 days

Syringe Instructions

  1. Unlock the dose ring by rotating ¼ turn.
  2. Slide the ring to the desired dosage mark closest to the syringe barrel.
  3. Rotate to lock the ring into place before dosing.
  4. Ensure the horse's mouth is clear of feed.
  5. Remove the syringe tip cover.
  6. Insert the syringe into the corner of the horse's mouth.
  7. Depress the plunger until it stops at the dose ring mark.
Ulcergard Syringe Instruction
  • Ensure the full dose is deposited at the back of the tongue or in the cheek pouch.
  • Observe the horse briefly to ensure no part of the dose is lost.
  • If any product is expelled, re-dosing is recommended.
  • Recap the syringe if unused doses remain.

Dosage Information

The minimum recommended dosage is 1 mg/kg per day (0.45 mg/lb), equal to ¼ of a syringe. Administer once daily during periods of stress. In clinical studies, daily use for 8 to 28 days has proven effective at preventing stomach ulcers in horses.

Information for Horse Owners

  • Use only in healthy horses. If signs of illness are present, consult your veterinarian.
  • Ulcergard is effective in horses weighing at least 600 lbs. It has not been evaluated in foals or weanlings.
  • Safe for use in breeding stallions. Safety in pregnant mares has not been established.
  • Use during stress-inducing situations such as trailering, racing, training, stall confinement, or competition.
  • Common signs of gastric ulcers include poor appetite, recurrent colic, dull coat, weight loss, or poor performance. These symptoms may also indicate other conditions—consult a veterinarian for proper diagnosis.

Storage Instructions

Store between 68°F–77°F (20–25°C). Short-term excursions between 59°F–86°F (15–30°C) are acceptable.
