Sterile Water for Injection USP is a sterile, nonpyrogenic, solute-free preparation of distilled water for injection. It is for use only as a sterile solvent or diluent vehicle for drugs or solutions suitable for parenteral administration. Sterile Water for Injection contains no bacteriostat, antimicrobial agent or added buffer and is intended only for single dose injection after admixture with an appropriate aolute or solution. When smaller amounts are required, the unused portion should be discarded.
This sterile water is intended for injection. It is suitable to be used as a diluent for pharmaceutical solution preparation when it is made isotonic through the addition of suitable solutes. This product is made by distillation and is preservative-free. When making solutions using this water, the solution should be sterilized using appropriate sterility precautions or promptly used.
Sterile Water for Injection, USP is indicated in the aseptic preparation of parenteral solutions.
Handle under strict aseptic conditions. Solutions made with this sterile water should be used promptly or sterilized to maintain quality. Discard unused portion after use.
Federal law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.
Sterile Water for Injection is not suitable for intravascular injection without first having been made isotonic by addition of suitable solutes. Do not use the product if the seal has been broken or if the solution is not clear.
Sterile Water for Injection, USP is a hemolytic agent due to its hypotonicity. Therefore, it is contraindicated for intravenous administration without additives.
Do not use for intravenous injection unless adjusted to approximate isotonicity with a suitable solute. Hemolysis may occur following infusion of Sterile Water for Injection, USP. Hemoglobin induced renal failure has been reported following hemolysis.
