Description

R Pen was originally formulated and approved for use in turkeys, R-Pen Penicillin-G is frequently prescribed for use in swine to treat respiratory disease and clinical signs of Strep suis.

Specifications:

  • Treated turkeys should not be slaughtered for food during treatment or for 1 day after last treatment.
  • Do not use in turkeys producing eggs for human consumption.
  • For oral use in turkeys only.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Store in a dry place at room temperature. Avoid excessive heat (104°F or 40°C).

Indication:

Turkeys: For treatment of erysipelas in turkeys (cause by Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae).

Administer orally at a dosage of 1,500,000 units of penicillin per gallon (3.8 liters) of drinking water for 5 consecutive days. Combine contents of entire package and approximately 1.5 pints (3 pints for 1.0 BU pack) of water in glass or plastic container. Stir to dissolve. Allow the concentrated solution to stand until the foam disappears.

Mixing Directions:

Automatic Watering Systems:

Pour the concentrate solution into a glass or plastic container, then add enough water to make 2.6 gallons (9.9L) - 0.500 BU pack and 5.2 gallons (19.7 L) - 1.0 BU pack solution. [This amount of solution will medicate 333 gallons (1260 L) - 0.500 BU pack and 666 gallons (2521 L) - 1.0 BU pack of drinking water.] The automatic waterer should be adjusted to deliver 1 oz (30 mL) of stock solution per gallon (3.8 liters) of drinking water. In automatic watering systems, prepare fresh solutions every 12 hours.

Gravity Flow Watering Systems:

Pour the concentrated solution into enough water to make 333 gallons (1260 L) - BU pack and 666 gallons (2521 L) - 1.0 BU pack of drinking water. In gravity flow watering systems, prepare fresh solutions every 12 hours.

Drinking water prepared as directed above will contain 1,500,000 units of penicillin G per gallon (3.8 liters).

Caution:

Federal (USA) law restricts this drug to use by or on he order of a licensed veterinarian.

Residue Warning:

Treated turkeys must not be slaughtered for food during treatment and for one day after the last treatment has been completed. Do not use in turkeys producing eggs for human consumption.

Precautions:

For best results, the treatment should be started at the first sign of infections. If improvement is not observed after 3 to 4 days of treatment, consult a poultry pathologist or veterinarian. For oral use in turkeys only.

Storage:

Store below 86°F in a coll dry place. Avoid excessive hear (104°F or 40°C).
