Description

Onsior (Robenacoxib) is a fast-acting nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) specifically formulated to relieve acute pain and inflammation in cats following soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries. With targeted action and rapid absorption, Onsior offers effective post-operative pain relief while minimizing gastrointestinal side effects.

Key Benefits of Onsior for Cats:

  • Provides targeted relief for pain and inflammation following spay, neuter, and orthopedic surgeries
  • Rapidly absorbed and concentrated at the site of inflammation for effective 24-hour pain control
  • Supports seamless transition from Onsior Injection to Onsior Tablets at home
  • Designed to spare COX-1 enzymes, reducing risk of gastrointestinal side effects
  • Well-tolerated and safe for short-term use in cats 4 months of age and older

How Onsior Works:

Onsior contains robenacoxib, a COX-2 selective NSAID that blocks the enzyme responsible for pain and inflammation while sparing COX-1 enzymes, which help maintain gastrointestinal and renal function. The tablet form is rapidly absorbed from the GI tract and remains active at inflammation sites for up to 24 hours, offering convenient once-daily dosing.

Indications for Use:

Onsior Injection: Indicated for the control of postoperative pain and inflammation associated with orthopedic surgery, spaying (ovariohysterectomy), and neutering (castration) in cats aged 4 months or older, for a maximum of 3 consecutive days.

Onsior Tablets for Cats: Indicated for the control of postoperative pain and inflammation following orthopedic surgery, spaying, or neutering in cats weighing ≥5.5 lbs (2.5 kg) and ≥4 months of age, for up to 3 days.

Onsior (robenacoxib) Injection for Cats is a fast-acting nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) designed to manage postoperative pain and inflammation in cats. Administered subcutaneously, Onsior is absorbed rapidly and targets inflammation at its source. This injectable formulation offers veterinarians a reliable option for short-term pain control with proven safety and efficacy.

Key Benefits:

  • Effective control of postoperative pain and inflammation
  • Administered subcutaneously for quick absorption
  • Ideal for surgical procedures including spay, neuter, and orthopedic surgeries
  • Safe for cats ≥ 4 months of age when used as directed
  • Can be used interchangeably with Onsior tablets (different dosage)

Dosage Directions:

Recommended Dose: 0.91 mg/lb (2 mg/kg) administered subcutaneously once daily for up to 3 days. Use a 1 mL graduated syringe for accurate dosing.

Administration Guidelines:

  • For subcutaneous use in cats ≥ 4 months of age
  • Administer first dose 30 minutes prior to surgery with pre-anesthetic agents
  • May be interchanged with Onsior Tablets in cats ≥ 5.5 lbs and ≥ 4 months of age, not to exceed 1 dose per day or 3 total doses

Note: Onsior injection and tablet dosages are not the same. Follow label instructions carefully.

Contraindications:

Do not use in cats with known hypersensitivity to robenacoxib or intolerance to NSAIDs.

Important Safety Information:

  • Do not use with other NSAIDs or corticosteroids.
  • Use caution in cats with dehydration, renal, cardiovascular, or hepatic conditions.
  • Monitor for reduced appetite or lethargy and discontinue if observed.
  • May cause injection site inflammation or prolong the QT interval in susceptible cats.

Precautions:

Use only in cats ≥ 4 months old and ≥ 5.5 lbs. Not evaluated for long-term use, breeding, or pregnant/lactating cats. Administer under veterinary supervision. Consider fluid therapy during surgery to reduce renal risk.

Common Adverse Reactions:

  • Vomiting, diarrhea, and decreased appetite
  • Surgical site inflammation or bleeding
  • Lethargy or behavioral changes
  • Rare neurologic signs including seizures or ataxia

Serious reactions can occur without warning. Discontinue immediately and consult a veterinarian if adverse signs appear.

Storage:

Store refrigerated at 36°F–46°F (2°C–8°C). Use within 12 weeks of first puncture. Clean vial stopper with isopropyl alcohol before and after each needle use.
