Description

Lanoxin a healthy heart is the key to a long life. Lanoxin can help pets who suffer from congestive heart failure. It improves the heartbeat and stabilizes the heart for a steady rhythm. It is mostly used to treat congestive heart failure. This medication also aids in reducing the heart rate in pets suffering from chronic atrial fibrillation. Be sure to inform your vet about any health conditions your pet has before using this product and to find out if your pet could benefit from Lanoxin.

Key Benefits

Increases contraction strength of the heart

How It Works

Lanoxin works by affecting the minerals sodium and potassium inside your pet's heart cells. This action reduces strain on the heart and helps it maintain a normal, steady, and strong beat.

Indications

Lanoxin is indicated for the treatment of various heart diseases including atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter and congestive heart failure. The medication is also used for certain conditions creating rapid/irregular heart beat and sometimes dilated cardiomyopathy. Digoxin, the active ingredient, slows down heart rate and increases heart muscle contraction. The ability of the medication to increase the contraction strength of the heart results in an increase in the amount of blood pumped out of the heart and reduces fluid buildup in the lungs.

Directions

It is important to follow your Veterinarian's prescription instructions for your pet and do not adjust dosages without first consulting your Veterinarian.

  • Lanoxin is a prescription medication used in dogs and cats for the initial and chronic treatment of congestive heart failure, and atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter.
  • Lanoxin is a cardiac glycoside. Lanoxin helps the heart beat more strongly and regularly.
  • Do not stop giving the medication suddenly. Stopping suddenly can make the heart condition worse.

Because the difference between the treatment dose and the dose that causes side effects is small, do not adjust medication without contacting the veterinarian.

Dosage for Cats
Weight Dosage
All weights The usual dose for cats is 0.0015-0.002 mg/lb of pet's body weight every 12 hours, on an empty stomach. Lanoxin should be given with lots of water. Lanoxin should be given to your pet at the same times every day.
Dosage for Dogs
Weight Dosage
All weights The usual dose for dogs is 0.0025-0.005mg/lb of pet's body weight every 12 hours, on an empty stomach. Lanoxin should be given with lots of water. Lanoxin should be given to your pet at the same times every day.

Caution:

Because the difference between the treatment dose and the dose that causes side effects is small, do not adjust the medication without contacting your veterinarian. Contact your veterinarian if your pet shows decreased appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, incoordination, changes in urination, or weakness while being treated with Lanoxin.

Precautions:

Extreme caution is required when used in animals with digitalis overdose, ventricular fibrillation, electrolyte abnormalities and other kidney, heart or lung disorders. The medication should not be used in animals with hyperthyroidism, ventricular fibrillation, kidney failure or allergy to the drug. Using the drug in animals with allergy to digoxin could result in adverse side effects. Antacids and metoclopramide tend to reduce the effect of digoxin. Avoid using the medication with diuretics like furosemide or HCTZ, quinidine, verapamil, laxatives, tetracycline, chemotherapy drugs, erythromycin or corticosteroids like prednisone. It is advised to inform the veterinarian or pharmacist about the medications the pet is taking. Keep the medication at room temperature, away from excess heat, moisture and light. The dosage of the drug should be chosen with care, depending on the clinical condition of the pet.

Storage:

Store this product at room temperature, away from moisture and heat.
