Description

Hydroxyzine Pamoate, is a prescription medication that is used to treat itchy skin due to allergies. With fewer side effects than corticosteroids, it blocks the histamines that cause allergic reactions. It can also be used as a sedative. Keep giving hydroxyzine pamoate and talk to your veterinarian if your pet develops any of these less serious side effects: dizziness, drowsiness, or confusion; blurred vision or dry mouth; nausea or vomiting. Give the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it almost time for the next regularly scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and give the next one as directed. Do not give a double dose of the medication.
If you suspect your pet has received an overdose of hydroxyzine pamoate, consult your veterinarian or emergency veterinary clinic. Overdose of hydroxyzine pamoate may cause nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, seizures, and/or slow breathing.
Hydroxyzine pamoate can cause drowsiness and dizziness.
Hydroxyzine pamoate may interact with acepromazine, amitriptyline (Elavil), chlorpheniramine (Chlor-Trimeton), celmastine (Tavist), fluoxetine (Prozac), meperidine (Demerol), or Phenobarbital.
