Hydrocortisone (Generic) Cream 2.5% for Dogs & Cats is a topical cream prescribed as an anti-inflammatory to treat redness, swelling, itching and other skin conditions. It works by blocking natural substances (histamines) that occur during an allergic reaction. This medication is also available in a 1% strength. Customers may receive this drug under the name Zymox.

Uses

Indicated to provide relief from itching caused by inflammation, seborrheic dermatitis, insect bites and other minor skin irritations.

Possible Side Effects

Due to reported effects on the stomach lining, Hydrocortisone can result in stomach ulcers. Never use it with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. As with other Hydrocortisone should be avoided when fungus infections, liver or kidney impairment or stomach ulcers are present. Other adverse effects are increased appetite, increased thirst, weight gain and dull hair coat. Muscle weakness, liver damage, and behavioral changes can also occur.
