Description

Amoxicillin Clavulanate Oral Suspension 400 mg/57 mg per 5 mL is a prescription combination antibiotic that may be prescribed by veterinarians for susceptible bacterial infections.

This medication is supplied as a powder for reconstitution into a liquid suspension, allowing for convenient and accurately measured oral administration.

How It Works

Amoxicillin is a penicillin-class antibacterial medication that works against susceptible bacteria by interfering with bacterial cell wall formation.

Clavulanate potassium is a beta-lactamase inhibitor. It helps protect amoxicillin from degradation by certain beta-lactamase enzymes produced by bacteria, extending the antibacterial activity of the combination.

Indications

Amoxicillin Clavulanate Oral Suspension may be prescribed by a veterinarian for the treatment of susceptible bacterial infections. The specific dose, frequency, and duration of treatment depend on the animal's condition and should be determined by the prescribing veterinarian.

Directions

  • Use only as prescribed by your veterinarian.
  • Shake the reconstituted suspension well before each use.
  • Measure each dose carefully using an appropriate oral dosing syringe or other calibrated measuring device.
  • Give the exact amount and at the frequency directed by your veterinarian.
  • Complete the full prescribed course unless otherwise instructed by your veterinarian.
  • Keep the reconstituted suspension refrigerated.
  • Discard any unused reconstituted suspension after 10 days.

Cautions

  • For oral use only.
  • Use only under the direction of a licensed veterinarian.
  • Do not use in animals with a known serious hypersensitivity to penicillins, cephalosporins, amoxicillin, clavulanate, or other beta-lactam antibiotics unless specifically directed by a veterinarian.
  • Contact your veterinarian if your pet's condition worsens or does not improve as expected.
  • Keep out of reach of children and animals.

Possible Side Effects

Gastrointestinal effects such as vomiting, diarrhea, or decreased appetite may occur. Allergic or hypersensitivity reactions are also possible.

Discontinue use and contact your veterinarian promptly if your pet develops facial swelling, difficulty breathing, severe or persistent vomiting or diarrhea, rash, or another unexpected reaction.

Precautions

  • Tell your veterinarian about other medications or supplements your pet is receiving.
  • Use with veterinary supervision in animals with kidney, liver, or other significant health conditions.
  • Do not change the dose or discontinue treatment early unless directed by your veterinarian.
  • Use a calibrated measuring device to ensure accurate dosing.

Storage

Before reconstitution, store according to the manufacturer's package instructions. After reconstitution, keep refrigerated. Shake well before each use and discard any unused suspension after 10 days. Keep the container tightly closed and out of reach of children and animals.

Disposal

Discard unused medication after the recommended storage period or according to instructions from your veterinarian or pharmacist. Do not reuse the container for another purpose.
