Description

Cerenia is the first and only FDA-approved medication prescribed by veterinarians for dogs to help treat and help prevent vomiting caused by motion sickness. Each tablet is scored, allowing for easy and accurate dosing. As many as 1 in 5 dogs suffer from canine motion sickness, so whether you are taking your furry friend to the vet or going on a road trip together, Cerenia tablets are the number one choice among veterinarians to help stop your pal from feeling sick.

Key Benefits

  • Prevents acute vomiting and vomiting due to motion sickness in dogs
  • Comes in 4 different size tablets for various weight classes
  • Once a day dosing
  • Non-sedating

How It Works

Cerenia is considered an antiemetic. It helps control acute vomiting and vomiting due to motion sickness in dogs. Vomiting occurs when a certain substance called substance P in the brain is triggered. Maropitant citrate, the ingredient in Cerenia, blocks substance P thus controlling the vomiting reaction.

Indications

CERENIA (maropitant citrate) Tablets are indicated for the prevention of acute vomiting and the prevention of vomiting due to motion sickness in dogs. CERENIA (maropitant citrate) Injectable Solution is indicated for the prevention and treatment of acute vomiting in dogs and for the treatment of vomiting in cats.

For Prevention of Acute Vomiting in dogs 7 months of age and older: Administer Cerenia Tablets orally at a minimum dose of 2 mg/kg (0.9 mg/lb) body weight once daily until resolution of acute vomiting.

If vomiting persists despite treatment, the case should be re-evaluated. Cerenia is most effective in preventing acute vomiting associated with chemotherapy if administered prior to the chemotherapeutic agent.

FAQ

Cerenia is an antiemetic, which means it can help prevent vomiting. For dogs, veterinarians may prescribe Cerenia to prevent vomiting from car sickness (motion sickness), or to safely and effectively treat acute vomiting.

Veterinarians also use Cerenia Injectable in dogs to help prevent vomiting before surgery when opioids are used as a preanesthetic.

Cerenia is available for dogs as a tablet you can give your dog at home to prevent car sickness or to extend the therapy time after your dog receives an injection. For acute vomiting, Cerenia is available as an injection that your veterinarian administers

Many things can cause vomiting in dogs, including toxins, various drugs, diseases or even parasitic infections. And, well, we all know that dogs vomit sometimes. Acute vomiting is when vomiting suddenly happens and can last anywhere from a few minutes to a few days. Many times, a dog may keep vomiting even after the stomach is empty of everything except bile. If your pet experiences acute vomiting, contact your veterinarian.
Cerenia is non-sedating, which means it doesn't cause drowsiness. So when you reach your destination, your buddy will be his or her usual self. This is different from medications such as Benadryl® and Dramamine®, which may cause drowsiness and are not FDA-Approved for vomiting in dogs.
Cerenia is the first and only FDA-Approved anti-vomiting medication for dogs.* Unlike Benadryl and Dramamine, Cerenia doesn't cause drowsiness, is available in multiple dosing sizes and has been clinically tested to safely prevent vomiting in dogs.

Car sickness is a type of motion sickness. Your dog can experience this sickness on boats, trains, planes and the like - not just in cars!

In dogs, car sickness is most likely linked to the centers of the brain that control balance and process motion. It can also be related to fear and anxiety about car rides.

Motion sickness affects up to 20% of dogs. While dog car sickness is its most common form, motion sickness can occur while traveling on planes, trains and other vehicles. Signs of car sickness in dogs can include drooling, excessive lip licking, pacing, vomiting, yawning and more.

Motion sickness in dogs can produce any number of signs, such as drooling, dry heaving, excessive lip licking, excessive panting, inactivity, pacing, restlessness, shaking, vomiting, whining and yawning.
If your dog's stomach is empty before the ride, that can help ease your pup's car sickness. Making frequent stops can also help. But Cerenia is veterinarians' first choice for preventing vomiting due to motion sickness in dogs.2 It's the first and only veterinary FDA-Approved medication for canine motion sickness.
Cerenia Tablets is the first and only FDA-Approved medication for canine motion sickness. And it's veterinarians' #1 choice for preventing vomiting from motion sickness in dogs.
The active ingredient of Cerenia is maropitant citrate, a neurokinin-1 (NK-1) receptor antagonist. Maropitant blocks the action of substance P - a neurotransmitter involved in vomiting - in the central nervous system. By blocking substance P from binding to the NK1 receptor, maropitant can prevent vomiting.
Cerenia starts working quickly to prevent or treat your dog's vomiting. It's effective for about 24 hours.
In clinical studies of Cerenia, common adverse reactions noted were hypersalivation, drowsiness, lethargy, anorexia and diarrhea.
To prevent vomiting from car sickness, you can give Cerenia to puppies 4 months and older. For prevention of acute vomiting, you can give Cerenia to puppies 2 months and older.

Best price everywhere!!
August 7, 2021
My 15 y.o. rescue baby girl started showing kidney issues recently. One of the symptoms that I notice was that she started drooling excessively. This was because of her upset stomach. (Symptom of kidney problems in dogs). Cerenia is helping her with that. And it works. It really works. Also; you can’t compete with this price!!! The first time that the vet told me that I had to use it ( because I wanted to start her treatment NOW), I bought it directly from their own pharmacy. Their price? DOUBLE (literally) the entirelypetpharmacy.com price!!!!
Pros
  • Excellent for some kidney failure symptoms.
  • Excellent price.

Great Product but Price is Getting High
November 17, 2019
I love the product but I wish the prices didn't always go up. Right now my youngest Wheaten is on several long term medications which cost quite a bit of money every month not to mention Vet bills and tests. Luckily we can afford it right now but so many people can not so please don't raise the price just because every other place does.

Works fast

I have used this product a lot .
It works fast to help my pets feel better quickly .
Pros
  • Works fast
Cons
  • No cons for this drug.
  • Dealing with Entirely Pets Pharmacy was a nightmare .
  • First time ever that it took so long to get a prescription from an on line pharmacy.
  • It took about a full month just to get my prescription into their hands.
  • I had asked them to contact my vet and they placed one call then told me my vet said to pick up a written prescription.
  • Which was completely false.
  • So I decided to just mail them the prescription and when I received the product the condition of the boxes looked like they had been through someone stepping all over them.
  • Thank goodness the pills are sealed well in their package from the drug company.
  • Won?t ever order from Entirely Pets Pharmacy again.

The Cerenia has really helped my dogs be able to travel better without vomiting and feeling so sick. It is a great product and will use it for as long as I need to keep my dogs comfortable in the car.
