Baytril Otic works to treat ear infections with the use of two ingredients enrofloxacin and silver sulfadiazine. Enrofloxacin has quick bacteria-killing properties and silver sulfadiazine is an ingredient which kills fungal microogranisms most commonly associated with canine otitis externa (ear infections).
DirectionsDosage and Administration:
Give this medication exactly as directed by your veterinarian. Give all of the medication your veterinarian has prescribed. Symptoms may start to improve before the infection is completely treated. If you do not understand the directions ask the pharmacist or veterinarian to explain them to you. Store Baytril Otic between 40-77°F. Store in an upright position. Keep this medication away from children and pets.
What happens if I miss giving a dose:
Give the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the dose missed and give only the next regularly scheduled dose. Do not give a double dose of the medication.
What happens if I overdose the pet:
Seek emergency veterinary medical treatment. Symptoms of overdose may include loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, hearing loss, loss of balance or increased redness of the ear.
Possible side effects of Baytril:
Increased redness of the ear, hearing loss, or loss of balance may occur. Side effects other than those listed may occur. Talk to your veterinarian about any side effect that seems unusual or bothersome to the pet.
What should I avoid while giving Baytril to my pet:
Do not use Baytril Otic in animals allergic to it or other floroquinolone antibiotics and/or sulfonamides. Use caution when using Baytril Otic Otic in animals with a punctured ear drum.
What other drugs will affect Baytril:
Talk to your veterinarian or pharmacist before giving any prescription or over the counter medications.
What should I discuss with my veterinarian before giving Baytril to my pet:
Tell your veterinarian if your pet has had seizures or if the pet is pregnant or lactating.
The safe use of Baytril Otic in dogs for breeding purposes, during pregnancy, or in lactating bitches, has not been evaluated.
